Analysis and Stats

Hansbrough gives it and gets it.  If you have missed it, he has the 'will' of 50 men.  He plays hard.  I respect him.  I have to say that since I began tracking this and calling it out - overall things in this league seem to have improved with respect to the Hansbrough factor.  The chart here does not fully show the bias or lack there of - but the data is interesting.  I will take a closer look at this and compare him to others to round out my thoughts.  In all fairness - I think that the officials have for the most part reeled in the Hansbrough gift pass a bit.  There are times when I sway toward thinking otherwise, like when he travels with the ball.... every time he touches it.

Anyway...Be clear that FT Attempts per Minute will be amplified a bit for better FT shooters.  Since they likely make a higher percentage of the front end of one and ones, they tend to get additional attempts that are not indicative of another foul taking place.

ACC top performers are difficult to compare this year.  Frankly - the league is as loaded with talent as it ever has been.  There are players this year that will be on the second team that potentially could have been player of the year in seasons past.  I am amazed every time I watch McClinton or Henderson.  Absolutely amazed.  They are ridiculous.  Quite often Vasquez carry's Maryland by playing at that level too.  Booker is just dominant.  Florida State's Douglas and Wake Forest's Teague are sick, and oh yeah - I haven't even mentioned the reigning national player of the year yet.  It sucks that in a year where the level of play is so good, and the talent levels are so high, and the entertainment value game in and game out is up - that the ACC tournament isn't sold out.  That said - rebounding is another category that can't be compared fairly - but must be considered in determining who is on the first team - so here is a look....

Now that we are past the halfway point - it makes sense to take a look at these guys against 'like' competition.

Assists are going to be higher for the guards.  Assist to turnover ratio isn't a perfect way to compare big men vs. little men, but neither are rebounds.  When searching for player of the year, all things must be considered.  So here it is.  Plus  I love calling guys that are 6'1" little men.
ACC Basketball has 12 teams with some unique styles of play.  The Tarheels get up and down the court at a blistering pace.  Duke plays a tough man to man defense as well - but engages in more half court sets than the heels.
